Healthy Lunchbox Ideas

At Ellergreen Nursery School and Childcare Centre we aim to support and develop every child, so they can live healthy and active lives. We are committed to encouraging and developing positive attitudes towards health and well-being.

All aspects of food within our school is well-balanced, varied and nutritious. Children enjoy a healthy snack during snack time and fresh water is available all day. We also offer a range of fresh fruit to take home at the end of each day.  It is our aim to make every day a ‘Healthy School Day’, with a focus on healthy eating and physical activities. We learn about hygiene and cooking skills including making Gruffalo crumble, gingerbread men, carrot juice, fruit skewers and so much more. Every child has the opportunity to grow and cook fresh foods throughout the year.

Parents are given advice and support on providing a healthy lunchbox for their child with a range of quick, easy, correct portion size, healthier lunchbox ideas.

Coffee mornings are held to promote:

  • Dental hygiene
  • Healthy diet and Fitness
  • Potty training
  • Breast Cancer Awareness
  • Cystic Fibrosis Awareness

The focus of our Coffee Mornings change every term.

We have a dummy amnesty event at Christmas so that all the dummies go on the Dummy Tree and go to Father Christmas for the babies. (This is very important for your child’s development).

We want to ensure that all our children are educated and aware so that they can make informed and positive choices in all aspects of their life. We have focus weeks such as road safety, PANTs, dental hygiene etc. We also offer support for parents with toilet training and offer practical guidance.

Ellergreen Nursery School and Childcare Centre have been awarded ‘The Bronze Liverpool Health and Wellbeing Award’.

Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health:

We want to make sure that all our children are happy. Their successes are celebrated and that they feel valued in school. Our children know that their voices and opinions are valued and listened to and we ensure that they know how to seek help and advice when they need it.

Healthy Eating:

We want to see happy, healthy eaters during snack and lunch time and at our breakfast club. We aim to educate and encourage children so they enjoy and feel empowered making the right choices about the food they eat. We encourage and teach children to understand more about what it means to have a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Physical Activity:

All our children and staff love to be active! We have work out Wednesdays, activities outdoors and in the hall including yoga and PE.
