Broadening Horizons. Brightening Futures
The children have been learning all about the Chinese Zodiac and how Chinese New Year is celebrated each year. They discovered it was the year of the Tiger and retold the Chinese Zodiac story, using the small world toys. Class 1 also learnt how to use ordinal numbers (1st to 12th) to order the animals. We found out red is a lucky colour in China and made lanterns, Chinese drums, dragons and money wallets, using this very important colour. The children also had the opportunity to explore and try a variety of Chinese food during our banquet. We used our senses to decide whether we liked it, first looking, then smelling and finally tasting. The children also worked together to create a class Chinese dragon and performed their own Chinese dragon dance.
